IF MEMBERS OF PORTNEUF RIVER BACK COUNTRY HORSEMEN WANT TO GO ON ONE OF THESE RIDES WE WOULD FORM A NON-GAITED GROUP AND LET THE GAITED GROUP LEAVE FIRST

The Over the Hill Gang is a group of individuals who ride gaited horses with their friends and family every Wednesday. Our northern rides this year will cover an area from Hebgen Lake and Yellowstone in the North, the Tetons in the East, the Bighorn Mountains and Palisades Mountains in the South, and the Beaverhead, Lemhi and Pahsimeroi Mountains to West. Our southern rides will be primarily in the Pocatello, Portneuf and Bannock Mountain Ranges with occasionally longer trips to City of Rocks/Castle Rocks and rides
west and east of Trail Creek Road, i.e. Boulder White Clouds and Copper Basin.

The organization of the Over the Hill Gang is very simple. We have no officers or dues. Each year we start our planning in March by meeting at a Restaurant in Idaho Falls. A volunteer will prepare and mail a draft list of rides to members. The final draft will then be mailed, and we will start riding.

To become a member, you need to be a guest of a current member on your first ride. Most members ride a gaited horse i.e. Tennessee Walker, Missouri Fox trotter etc. We are looking for new riders to join our group, but we want to make sure that they will be safe and enjoy these longer rides in the mountains. Please call me, Steve Hurley at 208 221-4626 or send an email to hurlstev@gmail if you are interested in learning more.

Our main rule is “be on time.” Call the ride leader as soon as you know you might be late. Make sure yours horse is saddled and ready to go as soon as possible after arriving at the Trailhead. Bring lunch and water because the rides will be from 10 to 20 mile long. Well behaved dogs are welcome. Remember some wildlife areas, parks, and wilderness do not allow dogs. Call the ride leader if in doubt.
