Grand Teton National Park
|
Six Grand Teton Park Documents have been combined into one file. You will find saddle and pack stock policy, camping policy, and maps of where some trails and camping sites are located. Most National Parks have terrible maps and they do not cater to horse users.

It is best to reserve a permit for the available horse campsites on the first Monday of January at 8AM. The following instructions should work. Changes in the layout of Recreation.gov may change, good luck.
Go to recreation.gov. Type in "Grand Teton National Park" and immediately choices will pop up. Scroll down the choices and click on "Grand Teton National Park - Backcountry Permits." Find a blue box with the words "Check Availability." Click on that box. On the next page, click on the bubble that says "Mountain Group Sites," it will turn blue. Now click on the blue box that says "Show Results." Among this page of choices, there are only four that allow horses. "Death Canyon Horse Site" "Holy Lake Group Site" "South Fork Cascade Horse Site" and "Upper Granite Horse Site." Holly Lake does not say "horse site" but it is a horse site. We camped there in 2019. I have also camped in the Upper Granite Horse Site in 2018. Actually, we didn't know which site was the horse site and it was getting late. There was no one in any of the sites so we just took one by the creek. The next day we rode by the actual horse site that had hitching posts.
The last horse camping site in Grand Teton National Park is the Berry Creek site near Hechtman Creek. Remember the page with bubbles? One of them was the Northern Canyons. Un-click the Mountain Group Sites bubble and click on the Northern Canyons bubble. Then click on the blue box "Show results." There are now four choices one of which is Hechtman horse Camp.
